I was up in Salt Lake City shooting a short for my grad school application and was far too busy for my silly blog. The short is basically a series of the same “guy meets girl” story done in the style of three different genres, each more ridiculous than the one before: Action, Western, and Musical. I’ll be posting samples as soon as I have them on this site, but in the meantime, Steven, who did the music for the musical, posted his awesome songs on his myspace (first 3 songs). Check them out for a little taste.

As far as movies for this week go, have no fear, the only thing coming out worth seeing in wide release this week is Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist. If you have access to limited release, Rachel Getting Married could be good, and RocknRolla looks pretty sweet. Oh, and you better go buy Iron Man on DVD.

My last post was May 23. It is now July 21. In retrospect, 2 months doesn’t seem that long, but I have been very busy. I originally stopped writing things here because I was trying to finish up 2 screenplays I was working on and get them sent out to the Slamdance screenplay competition before the June 2 deadline. As it turns out, Fat Camp just needs more time, so I only ended up re-submitting Nice Guy. It made it to the 2nd round last year, but I made a lot of changes since then, hopefully it does better this year.

I then went to Jackson Hole, WY to do some filming for The Pink Garter Theatre and have been working on those various videos pretty much since then. A promo reel can be seen here. I also did all the video portions for Singin’ in the Rain. It was a lot of fun. There were some trips to California after that, which spawned some other video projects (a clip of one can be seen here), some of which I’m still working on. I then went to Yosemite National Park and did some filming for Megan’s family. All I have left to do for the Pink Garter now is put together the recordings of their 3 shows for their archives, so I decided I’m allowed to write again while I work on all these other video projects.

What’s on the docket now? I wrote out an idea for a new web series, SamSpace, which will hopefully be up by tomorrow, and I have 16 movies in my Movie Review Queue. If any of my 15 or so regular readers are still reading, is there anything in particular that you’ve missed in the past 2 months that I should make sure to bring back?

Apparently I just became internet famous. This is a little weird. My friend, Nate was stumbling and came across the picture above on this website. After a little Googling, I found it again here. The weird thing is that the only place I have this picture posted is on Facebook.

Someone must have ripped it from there, added a little text, and submitted it to the fail blog. I wonder who it was. I figured I’d repost it here so that I get a little credit for the picture. Here’s what happened:

So there we were, driving through the middle of nowhere, Wyoming, when out of nowhere we got ambushed by a rogue wind. The back end started to slide right, I calmly said, “Here we go,” and turned the wheel to correct, it slid back left, and I suddenly remembered the 18-wheeler we passed not too long ago that was sure to be barreling toward us. I saw the edge of the road and decided that’s where I wanted to be. Off we slid, I pumped the brake once, the back end swung right, off the road, and behind us, and next thing I knew, we were perched 5 feet in the air.

We were going maybe 25 mph, more likely less when it happened, no tickets were issued, and there was absolutely no damage whatsoever to the car. We followed the tow truck towing the trailer to the nearest Uhaul, stayed the night, and swapped out the trailer the next day. It was relatively painless since I bought the insurance on the trailer, although I did have to completely repack it. The only major damage done was to a Wal-Mart particle board entertainment center, but the entire contents was covered by the insurance.

It took 2 tow trucks to un-perch us from the trailer. Luckily, I had my video camera with me.

It was crazy, after getting un-stuck, we sat on the freeway for like 5 hours waiting for them to clear all the toppled semis and wrecked cars off the freeway. Apparently they closed the freeway right after we passed the last closing point. Just too much wind on a snowy day. Hooray for failing!

You may or may not have noticed the little link at the bottom of my site, “Tripod Productions, LLC,” for the videography business I run with a friend of mine in Northern Virginia. We do videography for anything from sports to weddings to special events. We’ve been in the initial stages for the past year, building our website, working on contracts, and acquiring necessary equipment, but we are now officially up and running.

I am also pleased to announce, as you can see from the title of this post, that Tripod Productions, LLC now does video transfer as well. This means we can convert old home videos to professional DVDs. We primarily do VHS to DVD transfers, but we are able to work with whatever format a client may have. Each DVD is custom-made to the needs of the client, but packages are based around a $20 per 2 hours of tape price range.

It’s a new year and with it came a lot of new stuff. I thought I’d start things off with a semi-detailed account of the loot one spoiled white boy from Texas hauled in over the holidays, or at least a few of the highlights.

Megan started things off with a spark:

a leather bound edition of my favorite book, Fahrenheit 451.

Oh yeah, and it’s signed by Ray Bradbury himself.

Her parents surprised me with a fancy new toy I’ll be sure to use often after Megan and I move to Las Vegas:

a fancy picture-hanging level.

We then went to my parent’s house near Boston where my parent’s surprised me with another fancy new toy I’ve secretly been dreaming of:

a snazzy LED headlamp for all my forays in spelunking.

Michelle, being ever-so-thoughtful, gave me a brand new edition of Scene It, that I then used to once again prove my unmatched genius as I defeated everyone in a quick round.

Before any of this occurred, however, I was already somewhat jaded because as good as her Christmas presents were, Megan set the bar high with her wedding present to me:

An antique pocket watch from 1898 monogrammed with my initials.

Now, as great as all these gifts were, the greatest gift I received over the holidays could never be topped:

You may have noticed a few changes to the website. I grabbed a new WordPress theme (WordPress is the blogging software my website uses) and Megan made me a snazzy new header. I think it’s pretty sweet, but then again, so is she, so I shouldn’t be that surprised. Check her out, she changed her layout too. It’s pretty snazzy.

I’m still working on a few things for the site, like that little menu button in the top right corner. I want to change that little graphic, but haven’t found anything I like yet. Any ideas? I’ve got a few ideas for blog posts working up in the old noggin, and I’ll try to get those up soon, but the main reason for this post is to try out the new comments area. I decided to enable comments finally, mainly because of the cool little comment guy that comes up, so hopefully this works. I’ll keep it up as long as battling spammers doesn’t get too difficult.
