This Week in Movies – 4/30/08

In Theaters Friday:

  • Iron Man – Jon Favreau directs Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. Is it wrong of me to hope Megan doesn’t really want to see this movie so I can see it this weekend while she’s out of town? I think I might be more excited for this one than Indiana Jones or Batman. Shocking, I know.
  • Made of Honor – Patrick Dempsey gets made the maid of honor after he made the mistake of being made the best friend of the girl by which he’d like to get made a man. Not to be confused with Maid in Manhattan, Maid to Order, or the thousands of other Maid variations found on IMDb

On Video Yesterday:

  • 27 Dresses – Katherine Heigl has a lot of dresses. The End.
  • The Golden Compass – Nicole Kidman hangs out with a bunch of mythical creatures that hate Christianity.
  • How She Move – Some girl tries to dance her way out of the hood. I want to know if this ever happens in real life. Are there really underground clubs scattered across the US in which happy-go-lucky teens band together to battle with the power of dance? Seriously, I want to know.
  • The Diving Bell and the Butterfly – True story about a paralyzed editor who communicates by blinking. Supposed to be really powerful.

Favorite Video Friday – Dancing

This Week: Dancing

Robert Palmer – Simply Irresistible

This video is classic. Love the cheesy sound effects right before the hook.

The Avalanches – Since I Left You

I’ve been looking for an excuse to show this video for a long time now. I haven’t seen an Avalanches video I don’t like yet.

Samim – Heater

This video makes me miss the New York summer.

This Week in Movies – 4/21/08

In Theaters Friday:

  • Baby Mama – Tina Fey hires Amy Poehler as her own personal incubator. In other news, my wife has a platonic woman crush on Tina Fey and I’m perfectly okay with that.
  • Deception – Wolverine plays a lawyer who introduces young Obi Wan to an underground sex club. Sounds like good clean family fun.
  • Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay – Harold and Kumar are mistaken for terrorists on their way to Amsterdam. Neil Patrick Harris ensues

On Video Tuesday:

  • Cloverfield – Monster movies enter the world of YouTube. Interesting concept, but probably would have been better on the big screen.
  • Charlie Wilson’s War – A congressman, a CIA agent, and a Houston socialite go into a bar. The Cold War ends. Schlotsky’s! Starring Tom Hanks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Julia Roberts. This one’s already in the Netflix queue.
  • The Savages – Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney are dysfunctional siblings who must come together when their father becomes senile. I didn’t realize Hoffman made so many movies last year.

Favorite Video Friday – Breakdancing

Before I get started, I have to share this video I found that should have been in last week’s puppet edition:

Escort – All Through the Night

It seriously doesn’t get any more awesome than that. Sorry Weezer, you just got out Muppeted.

Now on to this weeks Favorite Video Friday feature – Breakdancing:

Dirty Vegas – Days Go By

If only I had the skills to dedicate my life to breakdancing into the heart of the one I love.

Crystal Method – Name of the Game

Creepy? Yes. Awesome? Absolutely. I think the boombox (a.k.a. ghetto blaster) needs to make a comeback.

Kid Sister – Pro Nails (Feat. Kanye West)

I don’t care how ridiculous it is, that hook is hott! And breakdancing finger-people? Genius.

Stumbling Through the Internet Pipes

Stumble, Stumble, Stumble, Stumble, Stumble Chameleon

  • This guy is a professional Origami artist. I didn’t even know that existed. He has an origami portfolio website. This guy is big time.
  • This guy turned his Wiimote into a digital whiteboard. Geek factor: through the roof. Why is it that geeks always talk with their hands?
  • Whenever I start feeling like a loser, I just watch this video and realize there are people way worse than I am…. Actually, that’s kind of cool. I suck again.
  • I never thought I’d be linking the Ellen Degeneres show from my website, but here I go.
